Working groups partner to drive upcoming cyber security conference

Two M-WERC working groups are excited to announce progress on an upcoming conference on cyber security in the biogas industry. 

Members and partners from the Industrial Energy Efficiency / Energy Water Nexus (IEE/EWN) and the Distributed Energy / Energy Storage (DEES) working groups have been involved in helping shape the event which will take place at UW-Oshkosh on August 22.  

The working group’s interest is driven as the need for cyber security has become increasingly important as energy and power systems and their communications rely on internet connectivity and electronic controls. 

The risks, methods of prevention, actions for mitigation and the path to recovery are shared among all aspects of business and community in Wisconsin. To provide a complete introduction and relevant case studies the conference will providing focused panels on Industry, Energy, Water and Talent. 

M-WERC’s panel will focus on biogas production in Wisconsin and potential cyber security issuesrelated to the food and beverage industry. 

 With advancements of smart, internet connected, systems, M-WERC members like MATC will speak at the conference about their expertise in making sure such systems are secure and reliable.   

Other panels are also developed with sector experts including the NEW IT Alliance, The Water Council and the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership. Attendees are encouraged to attend and network regardless of status in the path towards becoming prepared for cyber security risks.
