Member highlight We Energies
As part of our regular monthly feature, we’re excited this month to highlight one of M-WERC’s founding members We Energies. It’s parent company WEC Energy Group Inc., based in Milwaukee provides electricity and natural gas to 4.4 million customers across four states.
Milwaukee based We Energies serves nearly 2.3 million customers providing electricity, natural gas and steam.
The company brands include – We Energies (Wisconsin Electric Power and Wisconsin Gas), Wisconsin Public Service, Peoples Gas, North Shore Gas, Michigan Gas Utilities, Minnesota Energy Resources and Upper Michigan Energy Resources.
In addition to working group activities and industry road maps, We Energies officials have also been supporters of projects that include the proposed industrial-scale microgrid project at M-WERC’s Century City headquarters, the former Eaton technology center on N. 27th St.
Projects like the proposed microgrid fits with the city’s vision for Century City to create an eco-industrial park that advances the city’s power and energy cluster and is supported by other partners including the City of Milwaukee Environmental Collaboration Office.
The industrial-scale microgrid would have a capability, invented here in Wisconsin, to be able to allow large-scale power tests to be put on-grid and off-grid without affecting customers who are on that same grid. The aim, in part, is to help Century City be able to attract advanced manufacturing companies that develop advanced power equipment and products.
We’re excited to have them as M-WERC members.
