M-WERC members meeting adopts and updates strategic plan for the future
With an emphasis on growing the industries in the Energy, Power, and Controls sector, M-WERC hosted its end-of-the Fiscal Year member meeting in September. Members met throughout the afternoon focusing on economic development, supply chain, and workforce development aspects to grow the sector.
M-WERC Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer Alan Perlstein kicked off the meetings by welcoming and congratulating the newest members from the energy industry to join M-WERC. Argonne National Laboratory, Gross Automation, Generac, WPPI Energy, Premise, Inc., and Madison Area Technical College are the latest to join the 95-plus member consortium.
Perlstein highlighted a number of successes and accomplishments that M-WERC has accomplished throughout the last fiscal year, including:
Securing a grant with Grainger Institute for M-WERC’s Madison office for $300,000 per year for three years which aligns M-WERC closely with the University of Wisconsin-Madison research department
Negotiating and executing the first M-WERC sponsored research project with Briggs & Stratton Corporation that includes a diverse team of M-WERC, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette University, and University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers
Launching a revised and enhanced Technology Innovation research program (TI 2.0) seeking to assist our members in solving the tough research problems in the Energy, Powers, and Controls sector
Graduating all eight companies from the Energy, Power, and Control sector in the WERCBench Labs Accelerator Cohort No. 3
Completing the third M-WERC strategic plan for FY 2019-21 which was led by all six working groups reassessing their charters and scope-of-work and resetting their goals and overall objective of providing Market Insights to our members
We also recently adopted our updated strategic plan with a continued and refined focus on Technology Innovation, Market Insights and Talent Development. Yankees legend Yogi Berra once said, “If you don’t know where you are going, you might end up someplace else.” Using Yogi’s words of “wisdom” as a guide, Dan Ebert walked members through the extensive FY 2019-21 strategic plan with a clear vision: To become the leading Energy, Power, and Controls industry cluster for the Midwest Region impacting the productivity and success of our members and stakeholders, driving robust innovation in our field, stimulating new business growth applications and cultivating future talent and start-ups. Ebert explained that under the new strategic plan, M-WERC will be recognized for robust technology and innovation; engaged industry working groups; broadly dispersed talent development; and engineering entrepreneurship models.
The afternoon concluded with reports and conversation from our industry partners, including Vincent Rice of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC); Jerry Murphy of New North; and Dr. Mark Felsheim from Madison Area Technical College and Pat O’Brien from M7. Once the meetings were concluded, members participated in the grand opening of M-WERC’s Energy Innovation Center and toured the renovated 2nd floor.
Thanks to everyone who attended the meetings and celebartion. We look forward to an exciting, productive, and innovate FY 2019!
